Avril Chang is a Consultant General Surgeon with a subspecialty interest in Upper Gastrointestinal and Minimal Access Surgery. She was appointed as a Clinical Senior Lecturer by Imperial College Faculty of Medicine in 2002. She is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Surgeons, having done her formal surgical training in Australia. She obtained post-Fellowship experience as a Visiting Senior Registrar in the Pancreatico-biliary and Minimal Access Unit in Leeds General Infirmary, where she was introduced to the concepts of Safety and Ergonomics in Minimal Access Surgery. She has a continuing interest in the training of the next generation of surgeons, especially with regards to minimally invasive surgery and new technology. She is also the director of the MSc in Surgical Technology offered by Imperial College.
